Palm Training Workshop for Physicians

This course is for Physicians who own a Palm OS PDA (Palm, Handspring, Sony Clie Handera, Kyocera SmartPhone, etc.)  By the end of this course you will know how to use your PDA efficiently and effectively, both personally and professionally!

Bring your Palm!  You will be using your own PDA in exercises throughout the day designed to increase your mastery of various skills and applications.  You will also need to bring your HotSync cradle or cable.

Initially we will be learning and practicing skills to get the most out of using your Palm PDA!

  •  Synchronizing (HotSync) your Palm PDA with your desktop computer
     

  •  Checking your calendar with the Date Book
     

  •  Managing your to do list
     

  •  Checking your e-mail
     

  •  Getting access to web pages on your Palm
     

  •  Finding phone numbers and managing contact information using the Address Book
     

  •  Taking notes on anything, anywhere, anytime with the Memo Pad
     

  •  Keeping track of all contact information and having it with you always
     

  •  Using the infrared port to “beam” programs and data to other Palm users
     

  •  Finding, downloading, installing and accessing the thousands of specialized Palm programs available

How to use Your Palm PDA in Your Medical Practice

  •  Patient tracking software for keeping track of Inpatients and Outpatients, Daily notes, Medications, Lab Reports, History, etc.
     
  •  Medical calculations allow you to input patient data into the Palm PDA and quickly receive the results (e.g., A-a gradients, Creatinine clearance, anion gap, etc.)
     
  •  Medical references can be accessed, such as Lexidrugs Handbook, 5 Minute Clinical Consult, PDR, Harriet Lane, Physik's Lists, Maxwell's Guide, Karam's Review, etc.

Palm Medical Software

  •  We will download, install and look at the use of two popular medical application packages:
     
      1.  ePocrates a free clinical drug database for Palm Pilots
         
      2. PocketMD a $5.00 shareware program for managing patient information
